Hill's Prescription Diet Feline s/d dissolves struvite stones and reduces the risk of them forming.
How it works
Mineral crystals can form in the bladder. While these are usually passed easily, they can sometimes clump together. This can be uncomfortable for your cat and can lead to problems such as damage to the urinary tract as well as blockages which stop urine from passing. These stones are often made of struvite: a combination of magnesium, ammonium and phosphate.
Hill's Prescription Diet Feline s/d has been specially formulated to reduce the chance of struvite stones forming. It helps to maintain optimum pH levels in the urine, reducing the concentration of struvite.
The low levels of magnesium and phosphorus cuts the amount of those minerals in the urine, making it more difficult for struvite to form. It's also been proven to help reduce existing stones within as little as six days.
Additionally, the added antioxidants help to boost your cat's immune system and tackle free radical molecules that can cause damage within their bodies, particularly to bone and kidney health.
- can dissolve struvite stones in six days
- low levels of magnesium and phosphorus make it difficult for struvite stones to form
- maintains desirable pH level in urine
- antioxidants boost immune system
- nutritionally complete: can generally be your cat's only food source.
When to use it
Symptoms that your cat may be suffering from struvite stones include difficulty urinating, urinating more than usual, blood in the urine, cloudy urine, drinking more water and having a swollen stomach. If you notice any of these symptoms, it's important to contact the vet immediately before the stones grow larger. Struvite stones are more common in female cats than males and in cats aged seven years or older.
Struvite stones can usually be flushed out or dissolved with a special food such as this one. In some cases, when the stones are very big, surgery may be required. If your cat is prone to struvite stones a lifelong diet may be recommended by your vet. It's important to ensure that your cat only eats the prescribed food while the stones are being dissolved. Treats and other foods may contain phosphorus and magnesium which can increase the risk of stones forming.
Because veterinary diets are formulated for the nutritional support of pets with specific clinical conditions, we recommend that you only use them under professional advice. For more information on feeding Hill's Prescription Diet Feline s/d to your cat, please consult your veterinary surgeon.

24x156g wetThis is a regular purchase, with a competitive price and quick delivery. I don't use online money at all so very much appreciate being able to order by phone. I buy different products for two cats, splitting a tin into two portions a day plus a few treat biscuits for one who tends to put on weight, and giving two pouches a day plus & usually a bit of ordinary wet food for the other who tends to lose weight and the vet said don't give him dry at all. If they start to dry up a bit I give them s/d tins for a while.
Our cat has not had any problems with his bladder since starting this two years ago! Excellent product!
i'm sure this is helping my cat but considering how expensive this product is there should really be a variety of flavours e.g. a variety pack. at the moment i can only find 24 cans of liver flavour. my cat got bored two weeks ago and is hardly eating it. this really needs to be looked at.
As a loving and doting pet owner, its a major worry when your vet tells you that your animal requires specialist foods in order to keep them healthy.
I guess we are no different to lots of people in applying a cost is no problem when it comes to caring for our much loved pet, but when you see just how much the vet then charges you for the prescription food then it can become a problem when living on a budget with a young family.
